Frequently Asked Questions
How to have a QUOTE and BOOK an appointment?
You can use our Booking Enquiry Form on this website or contact us directly by email goodfortunenz@gmail.com
Send a description of your idea or flash and ask for the artist you want to book with.
Can I come to the studio without appointment?
Good Fortune is a private studio, running only by appointments.
We want to guarantee the maximum privacy to our clients, please book an appointment before visiting us.
How CONSULTATIONS work?
Consultations are free of charge.
This is a scheduled time to meet the artist, talk about your design idea with the help of reference images, get a quote, and ask about the tattoo process.
If you're happy with the project and quote, you can book a tattoo appointment by paying a deposit ($100 - $200 depends on the project).
Consultations last up to 30 minutes and can be done in person, via email, videocall.
Why do I have to pay a DEPOSIT?
Appointments can't be held until a deposit is paid.
A lot of work is involved in preparing your tattoo session, this includes email correspondence, consultation and hours spent creating a design.
This and the loss of a day's pay in the event of cancellation are the reason why deposits are not refundable.
Please give 24 hours notices on rebookings otherwise you will have to pay another deposit to reschedule, your deposit will be forfeit for any and all cancellations.
Can I see my tattoo design?
We don't sell tattoo designs or show them before the appointment, unless otherwise agreed with the artist.
Final designs will be ready for your appointment and any changes needed can be done before starting. Adjusting a design in person is easier and more practical, as it has to perfectly fit the body area. If the change is too big or requires a redraw you will have to rebook another appointment.
Can I bring someone with me to the appointment?
We ask you to do not bring anyone with you if it isn't necessary, please let us know if you plan to bring a support person (there is only room for one). Strictly no children unless arranged prior.
For safety reasons we only allow one customer at a time into the tattooing area.
The best things to do while having a tattoo, are watching a movie on your tablet or phone, reading a book, or chat with the artist.
What PAYMENT methods are accepted?
We accept bank transfers and cash. Or pre-purchased AfterPay sessions via our online store.
What is the MINIMUM price for a tattoo?
Our minimum charge is $150. This cost covers our set up, supplies and time. Our hourly rates are $150 and day session costs are $1200.
Can my MEDICATION affect the tattoo process?
If you have a medical condition or on any kind of prescribed medication, it is important that you disclose it to your artist before the tattoo procedure.
Affected conditions include, but are not limited to:
. heart condition
. diabetes
. hemophilia
. HIV
. hepatitis
. severe allergies
. epilepsy
. pregnant or nursing
Acne medications:
If you're taking Accutane, Minomycin (or any other Tetracycline related medication) or other prescribed drug for acne, you do not want to get tattooed.
Prescription drugs for acne cause skin to be hyper-sensitive, getting a tattoo can lead to severe pain and scarring.
It can take six months to a year for the medication to be out of your system once you stop taking it. After this period, it's safe to be tattooed.
Antibiotics:
Some antibiotics make the skin hypersensitive and may cause skin reactions.
It's suggested to wait at least a week before getting tattooed.
Blood thinners:
If you're taking any kind of medication to thin blood, you'll want to inform your artist beforehand and also consult your doctor.
Depending on the reason you're taking the medication, it might not be wise to get tattooed, or it might require shorter sessions.
If you have not informed us of your medications in advance and we cannot do your tattoo for medical reasons, you will lose your deposit.
The sum will partially cover the artist's loss of income for the day.
How do I PREPARE myself for a tattoo session?
The day before and after having a tattoo is highly advisable not to drink any alcohol, as it thins your blood damaging ink appearance and healing result.
Before coming to your appointment have a good night sleep, a healthy breakfast and plenty of water.
Make sure you're wearing appropriate and comfortable clothes. Bring water and snacks, you will have breaks through out the tattoo session to refresh yourself, drink and eat something.
Aftercare:
Remove wrap 2-4 hours after getting your tattoo, gently wash your tattoo with an anti-bacterial soap, let your tattoo breathe for 12-24 hours and keep it clean. Once it feels tight/dry apply a small amount of aftercare cream to your tattoo, make sure it is not shiny, or greasy you want the thinnest amount possible.
Wash, gently pat or air dry and reapply aftercare cream 1-3 times daily, or as needed.
Wear clean, soft clothing over your tattoo for the first 2 weeks, nothing tight, abrasive or irritating. Always keep your new tattoo clean and apply aftercare cream for a minimal of 2 weeks. Your tattoo will scab and flake until a new layer of skin remains, avoid scratching or picking during the healing process.
Things to avoid:
Do not pick, scratch, peel, rub or irritate your tattoo.
You can shower as usual, but no swimming, soaking or bathing while your tattoo is healing, for at least 2 weeks.
You may not expose your tattoo to the sun for at least 3 weeks, after that you must use sun block to reduce sun fading.
Do not wear abrasive materials, jewellery, or shoes that rub against your tattoo.
If you do not take care of your tattoo, it may become infected or damaged. Infections are very red around the outside of the tattoo, it may ooze, pus, or bleed abnormally. If you think your tattoo is infected, seek medical attention immediately.
